Each day at Bene's as in with other educational atmospheres our instructors and staff are in a position to change the lives of our students. Not only by teaching them a new craft but by being there as a support system, a confidant and as role models. Each and every one of our instructors has their very own set of excellent qualities that make them the right fit for this position but there are those times when a specific person or people takes the time and effort to go the extra mile and prove they deserve to be recognized, both Dawn St Germain and Lori Bryant have proven that to Bene's. Whether it's covering shifts for a co worker, spending extra time with a specific student, creating fun and engaging activities and elective special classes that inspire our students or just being here with a smile every day these ladies do it all. So Thank You ladies from the bottom of our hearts.
We asked Dawn and Lori a few questions about their time here and this is what they had to say...
What was your first impression of Bene's Career Academy?
"What was my 1st impression of Bene's Career Academy, well I am embarrassed to say I thought it was going to be like any other school I had worked for, but then I was told that April and Maria were heading up the Brooksville campus and I am so happy to say I was so wrong. The passion that the instructors have for their students is outstanding. I don't think in the last 10 years that I have been teaching that I have seen a more committed crew of instructors and I do mean in all of the campus'.."
Why do you teach?
"Well I'm a show off and love to talk about the things I have learned. I have a great career in the Beauty industry, I still stand behind the chair 1 or 2 days a week, and it is great to show students you don't have to just do hair, you can teach, you can specialize in a certain field, go into administration, become a sale rep. for this industry. It is all up to the student and when they see that I have a passion for the industry well that passion can be very contagious. That's just one of the things I love about teaching, the other is watching the light bulb go on when a student has mastered a skill that I've taught them."
What do you do when you're not working?
"What do I do when I'm not working, well that's easy, I'm learning more about technology to better teach our students. I'm boating, biking, reading, or just plain taking a nap."
How did you get involved with Bene's?
"Well, a few years back I actually came to the New Port Richey Campus to start my career in the beauty industry. I spoke with Mrs. Martin, just as all of the students here have done. I remember being super nervous and excited all at the same time. I ended up attending Paul Mitchell in Tampa as well as moving to Tampa to go work at an elite salon Mikels the Paul Mitchell Experience. I always get the question, why aren't you teaching at a Paul Mitchell School? The answer to that question is, I want to make a difference. Bene's is family owned and operated in a smaller size, but with the potential to create the same impact in the industry that I could be a part of means more of an opportunity to have one on one interactions with the students. The students and staff at Bene's are one in their own, like Forest Gump said,"You never know what you're gonna get."
Why do you choose to teach at Bene's instead of another beauty school?
My students and their education are the reasons I am a teacher here at Bene's, it has allowed me have the chance to work with some amazing people. Bene's has definitely been a highlight to my working career and inside those walls there is a family not just a school.
What do you do when you are not working at Bene's?
I also own Salon 1738 with My partner Shelby in Palm Harbor. When we aren't working at the salon or at the school (which are Sunday's) we spend our time with our pups or at Disney. Bene's has definitely been a highlight to my working career and inside those walls there is a family not just a school.
