How To Talk To Your Parents About A Beauty or Massage Career School

1/27/2014

Most successful stylists say they knew early on that they were destined to join the beauty industry. If you have that feeling and know that going to a beauty or massage career school is the only way you’ll truly be happy, the next step is to share this with your parents. Hopefully they’ll understand your reasoning and support your decision.

Some people’s parents might not be quite so understanding. Just like you have dreamed of being a stylist or massage therapist since you were young, they have dreamed of you going on to college and getting your degree. It will be a difficult conversation to have, but there are certain points you can make that will help convince your parents that a beauty career school is the right way to go.

Legitimate Career – The best way to convince your parents will be to present the facts. The latest data from the U.S, Bureau of Labor Statistics* indicate that jobs in cosmetology and skincare continue to grow at a steady rate. This is especially true for licensed professionals in the state of Florida! The state ranks among the top five states for employment for several different beauty careers.

Real Education – Don’t let the fun salon environment fool your parents into thinking that a beauty career cosmetology school will be a breeze. Cosmetology school is no joke! You’ll be putting in long hours at school, between spending time in the classroom and taking clients on the salon floor. While you’re in the classroom, you’ll be learning in-depth about complex life sciences, like anatomy and chemistry.  There are a lot of skills you need to learn and master while you’re in cosmetology school. But it’s a small price to pay for being able to do what you love!

Save Money –The cost of cosmetology school tuition is a fraction of the price compared to the tuition at a four-year college or university. If you know you’re not going to use your college degree, it’s a big waste of money, which you’ll spend most of your adult life trying to pay back. The world is already filled with millions of college graduates without jobs and in severe debt. Don’t add to this statistic, especially if you already know that college isn’t right for you.

Make Money – Not only will you finish your education much quicker, but you’ll be able to start working sooner, too! The minute you obtain your cosmetology license, you can start working behind the chair and earning money. The curriculum at Bene's International School of Beauty, Barber and Massage teaches valuable career skills to help students increase their income potential. Bene's students learn things like client retention, how to sell retail, and basic business and marketing skills – the keys for taking your new career to the next level into a thriving business.

Remember there’s no substitute for doing what you love.  If you can do what you love and pay the bills, why would you consider doing anything else?

If you point out all of the above to your parents, and they’re still not convinced that enrolling in Beauty and Massage Career School is a good idea, try inviting them to take a school tour with you. Getting them more involved in the process and inviting them to talk with the school’s staff could be all it takes.

Bene's is a beauty, cosmetology  massage and barber school with campuses in New Port Richey and Spring Hill, Fl. The school offers hands-on training in cosmetology, barber, skin care, and nail technology, as well as flexible class schedules, extensive State Board preparation, and Financial Aid to those who qualify.  See for yourself by taking a quick tour of the Bene's International School of Beauty campus near you! Call 727-848-8415 to learn more
